Bought this as a gift and am going to get one for myself. We bout this in the 7", 2+ cup size, which is a great size for most kitchen uses. It's VERY heavy, which is great and is actually why we purchased it. The person we are gifting it to is getting arthritis and we wanted to get something that they didn't have to try and hold in place while they are crushing stuff. This is so heavy that it shouldn't budge an inch while in use. Perfect!

Mashes up anything without worry. NOT FRAGILE, Go crazy pounding on any mixture. If the power goes out, you will be the only one on the block cooking a fine meal. Ive used it for anything from grinding tea to a powder, to carefully mashing a cup of juice from pomegranate pods. Although it has many uses and few things to worry about breakage wise, it is a heavy object and may be difficult to lift/handle especially for people who cannot pull up 25+ lbs with one hand.

Rock Solid; but women, curl up your sleeves for this one. It's going to take some muscle.

There are enough reviews of this piece of kitchen product and art form, so this won't be long. You will never find a higher quality mortar and pestle, and I'm pretty sure you won't find one that looks better either.

The thing is built like a tank - but one that has been hardened to resist a nuclear explosion. These things could serve as foundation stones for a house. Should last 10 lifetimes and still look exactly the same.

One last thing - with mortar and pestles, it's almost always better to go big. Pay a few extra dollars for the 8 inch / 3-cup model so it will be perfect for pesto, curry, guacamole, and grinding out large batches of spice blends.
